While using a bottle of bubbles as a phone:
“Hello?” (pause) “Come on. COME ON.” (pause) “Bye-bye.”
I went in last night to tell him to go to sleep because he’d been playing in his crib for an hour and a half, including five minutes of random uncontrollable giggling. I opened the door and…
Eli: “Hi! Baby Eli go sleep.”
Me: “Yes, Eli needs to go to sleep. Why aren’t you sleeping?”
Eli: “Ernie story.”
Me: “Ernie is telling you stories?”
Eli: “Yes. Ernie story. Ernie go sleep.”
Me: “Ernie needs to go to sleep too.”
Eli: “Night night Ernie. Night night Mommy.”
There were two deer on the side of the road this evening. Eli loves deer so I pulled over for him to look at them.
Me: “Eli, what do you see?”
Eli: “Okapi! Mommy okapi! Baby okapi! OKAPIIIIIIIIIIIII!”
Me: “No, those are deer.”
Eli: “Oh. Deer. Bye bye deer.”
Eli asked for a cookie (which is a cereal bar). I went and got him one.
Eli: “Here you go!”
Me: “Yes, here you go. A cookie for Eli.”
Eli: “No cookie Baby Eli. Cookie Monster! Baby Eli Cookie Monster!”
Me: “Are you being Cookie Monster?”
Eli: “Cookie Monster.”
And then he started laughing so hard that there were tears rolling down his face.
Eli was walking around the house howling like a wolf. All of a sudden, he stopped and walked over to me, looking very serious.
Eli: “Baby Eli all done be wolf.”
Me: “You’re all done being a wolf? Okay. That’s fine.”
Eli (taking my face in his hands): “Mommy. All done be wolf. All. Done.”
